Good to Great - Choice & Discipline

Master Chang often says that we should not be controlled by circumstance.

There’s a well known Business book called “Good to Great”. I just finished reading the sequel, “Good to Great and the Social Sectors”.

There was a quote that particularly resonated. Though the author is talking about organisations, I also see how this can apply to us as individuals.

He says,
Every institution has it’s unique set of irrational and difficult constraints, yet some make a leap, while others facing the same environmental challenges do not. This is perhaps the single most important point in Good to Great. Greatness is not a function of circumstance. Greatness, it turns out, is largely a matter of conscious choice and discipline.

That’s why I firmly believe that everyone who starts Hapkido can achieve their black belt (and beyond).

We all have amazing potential – circumstance may challenge us, but let us not be distracted and defeated by circumstance. We have the power within us. We can be the architects of our own destiny.
