The Right Ingredients

The gym that I attend is also a squash club (similar to Racquetball). A few weeks ago they hosted a squash championships and I went down to see the finals. I saw three matches in total.

In the first match, the women's final, one competitor was far superior. Technically more proficient, she naturally won.

In the second match, the 'B' league final, both players were equally skilled, but one 'lost it'. Every time he made a mistake he swore and openly chastised himself. He was defeated by his own mind, and naturally lost.

The third match was fantastic: two highly skilled players, both in control of their own minds. At the end of a very long match it all came down to fitness.

Proper technique, mental toughness and fitness.

There was an old advert on TV with Lindford Christie...

It was known as the Pre-Menstrual Attitude ad. But really PMA stood for Positive Mental Attitude.

Irreversal is a natural phenomenon that occurs when one is either "ahead" of the opposition and then suddenly, unexpectedly, drop behind. A person who experiences this will feel totally demoralised and will focus only on that emotion . Most often, using anger, the opposite, to try too hard to get back ahead.

The reverse is also true - from behind to ahead.

It is a very good self-awareness to possess.

Keeping a PMA (I can't say that without laughing, now... Especially since my girlfriend's a beast during that time...) throughout whatever you are doing can work wonders!
